Plastic Bank’s partnership with Specsavers

Specsavers is working with Plastic Bank to minimise their impact on the planet

One of Specsavers key sustainability goals is to reduce the environmental impact of the products that they sell. While they work with their suppliers to use more sustainable materials such as plant-based and recycled plastics, Plastic Bank helps them offset the plastic used in their contact lenses and packaging by removing an equivalent amount of plastic from certain coastal areas. Specsavers recognises that this is not a long-term solution, however the strength of the partnership between Specsavers and Plastic Bank lies in the opportunity to try to make a difference today for some of the people living in the vulnerable coastal communities where Plastic Bank operates.

Contact lenses from Specsavers now contribute to improving local communities and reducing plastic pollution.

Specsavers sell a lot of contact lenses around the world – they’re a big part of their business and they help millions of customers to see better every single day. Plastic packaging is essential to the safety and sterility of medical products like daily disposable contact lenses, but Specsavers also know that recycling plastic is complex and plastic recycling options are not always available in all regions where they operate.

This partnership enables Specsavers to offset more than 340 tonnes of plastic packaging waste annually. This is equivalent to the amount of plastic used in Specsavers sold contact lenses and packaging globally.
