What purpose means to Hive Cleaning

After years in the cleaning industry, Louis Beaumont, Co-Founder of Hive Cleaning, grew increasingly frustrated with the superficial commitments of some sections of the industry pertaining to sustainability. Louis felt that these companies cared more about appearing sustainable than implementing real sustainable practices. Motivated to enact true change, Louis and his team decided seven years ago to try to demonstrate that cleaning businesses can be truly sustainable and successful at the same time.  Under Louis’s leadership, Hive Cleaning has adopted effective operational practices and fostered a passionate, purpose-driven work culture. Louis shares, “We’re proud of what we do, and we know we’re making a positive difference. Sometimes, it makes the job harder, but we’re all happy doing it the right way.”  This ethos is integral to Hive Cleaning’s hiring process, attracting candidates who share the team’s enthusiasm and commitment.

Hive Cleaning’s workforce remains loyal, productive, and satisfied, thanks partly to fair compensation and a commitment to reducing the company’s environmental impact while supporting underserved communities in collaboration with Plastic Bank.

Hive Cleaning’s formula for success

Transparency and partnerships

Transparency often poses a significant challenge – companies either omit sustainability claims (greenhushing) or exaggerate them (greenwashing). Hive Cleaning has steered clear of both by publicly sharing detailed business data, including honest, information about the chemicals, suppliers, and machinery used.

When Louis was looking for a supplier to offset their plastic footprint, he found that Plastic Bank’s commitment to simplicity, maximum impact, and transparency matched his values. This partnership allowed Louis and his team to effectively contribute to communities heavily affected by poverty and plastic pollution, and confidently share the bottle collection data with their customers without apprehension.

Sustainable growth and impact

Securing sustainable suppliers requires substantial investment, posing a barrier for businesses aiming to enhance environmental practices. For Louis, these challenges were overcome with passion and resilience, resulting in positive ROI and business growth:

  • Team growth: The positive culture attracts like-minded team members, expanding the team to over 200 people who innovate and optimize operations.
  • Revenue growth: The company’s values have driven financial success, achieving a turnover of USD $5 million in seven years.
  • Industry leadership: Hive Cleaning is the highest-scoring B Corp in the UK within their sector, with future assessments looking promising.
  • Brand preference: High customer satisfaction and trust lead to most business through word of mouth, eliminating the need for traditional marketing.

“Along with  all of our sustainable practices, the relationship with Plastic Bank is great because it allows us to offset things that are unavoidable.”

Louis Beaumont
 Co-Founder of Hive Cleaning

Hive Cleaning consistently integrates new practices, such as water conservation and reduced chemical use, to further elevate their already favorable B Corp score.

Fun fact: Hive Cleaning currently looks after 1 million bees in Central London. The team uses the hives as an educational tool and views them as “a little barometer of the health of our planet.
