Protecting the health and well-being of our most vulnerable communities affected by COVID-19, emergencies and disasters.

During times of desperation, it’s common for people living in vulnerable conditions to get trapped into predatory loans that they can never escape from. Often they are unaware of the predatory nature of the loan and the long-term effects of the high interest rates they have agreed to. Failure to make minimum payments can put the individual and their families at risk. Unfortunately, the initial desperation tends to outweigh the risks associated with taking on the loan itself

The Community Relief Fund empowers registered collectors with the ability to receive an interest free advance on their upcoming bonus payments through Plastic Bank’s existing digital reward system.

How are Relief Credits distributed?

Once approved, an advance will instantly be distributed directly into the members’s digital wallet as Plastic Bank Relief Credit tokens. These tokens can be exchanged for physical cash at Plastic Bank branches and cash-out partners. They can also be transferred to their connected digital payment wallet via 3rd party integration, such as GoJek’s GoPay in Indonesia.

How does a member repay their Relief Credits?

After an advance is issued, the member will automatically start to make repayments based on the agreed conditions. Members will be able to track repayment of their advances via a progress bar on the home screen Plastic Bank app account. All repayments are made in exchange for eligible plastic materials - cash repayments are not accepted. Repayments are returned to the Relief Fund for future re-distribution. Any unused credits will remain in the members Relief Credit pool.

The Community Small Relief Fund is designed to be self-sustaining. The amount of the available tokens in the fund will determine the requirements, eligibility, and number of members who are able to apply for Relief Credits. The larger the fund, the more we can ensure that all eligible members receive the emergency relief they need as soon as they need it.
