Ocean-bound plastic

Ocean-bound plastic has not yet found its way into the ocean. This represents plastic that is found on the ground within 50 kilometers of a waterway or coastal area, and is otherwise unlikely to be collected.

Bottles Stopped

The amount of ocean-bound plastic collected and recycled in our recycling communities converted into bottles. Conversion rate is 50 bottles per kg (the average weight of a 500mL bottle is ~20g)

Plastic Bank is a proud signatory of the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment along with 350 organisations around the world.  The Global Commitment aims to eliminate unnecessary plastic, innovate more recyclable and efficient packaging, and circulate plastic to be reused or recycled after its first life.

At Plastic Bank, our mission is to remove plastic waste from the land, oceans and waterways while helping people ascend from poverty. We have a self-sustaining business model that empowers people to harvest plastics as a currency they can exchange for tools, household items, or food.

We call harvesting and repurposing plastics like this “social plastic”. Our goal is to lead the movement towards worldwide demand for the use of social plastics in everyday products. The higher the worldwide demand becomes, the higher the reward will be for harvesting social plastics. By using Social Plastic®, manufacturers can increase the recycled content in their products and support the development of a worldwide circular economy for plastic.
