Philippines

In July 2024, Typhoon Carina caused severe flooding in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, impacting many people, including Plastic Bank collection branches and collection members. In response, Plastic Bank Foundation utilized its existing programs to support affected communities. Efforts included operating community kitchens, distributing e-vouchers for groceries, and providing rice packs. Over 200 children received hot meals, while 471 collection members benefited from food support in areas such as Smokey Mountain, Pampanga, Zambales, Malabon, Valenzuela, and Laguna.

Brazil

In August, our team in Brazil distributed 170 vegetable baskets, benefiting over 450 members and their families in our collection communities. To date, we’ve delivered more than 2,500 vegetable baskets across the country, aiming to help our members provide healthy meals for their loved ones. “This basket lasts all week, helping ensure we have a healthy meal on the table every day. Even when we don’t have meat, we still have fresh vegetables,” shared Maria Souza de Jesus, a member from Espirito Santo.

Indonesia

Our Community Partnership in Indonesia has now reached the Kalimantan region! We’re excited to welcome UINSI Samarinda as our first university partner in collaboration with Ecofactive Nusantara. Through this partnership, we’ll provide accessible plastic collection on campus and train faculty on the importance of proper plastic waste management. This is only the beginning – we’ll keep expanding our reach and making a difference across the country.

Egypt

Plastic Bank Egypt recently participated in a key waste management workshop in Alexandria, Egypt. The workshop was hosted by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport and organized by the Alexandria government under the Ministry of Environment. The event allowed us to connect with stakeholders, discuss our plastic waste management solutions, and explore partnerships to support local community empowerment. It was a crucial step in raising awareness of our work and contributing to a more sustainable future in the region.
