A winning month for Ocean Stewards!

Together, we’ve hit yet another billion bottle milestone – stopping over 3 billion plastic bottles from reaching the ocean - the equivalent of over 60 million kilograms of plastic!

But that’s just one of the reasons to celebrate. We’ve also been named Social Impact Award winner at the Reuters Events Responsible Business Awards 2022. More than just acknowledging excellent sustainability strategies, #RBAwards22 applauds those that are truly making an impact on business, society, and the environment.

What meaningful eight days for us at this year’s K Show! We’ve got 187 individuals who pledged to steward the collection of ocean-bound plastic and empower collection communities. That’s 9,350 plastic bottles stopped from entering the ocean with 50 bottles for each one who signed up at our booth, completely on us!

Philippines

SC Johnson visited our ecosystem in the Philippines to experience first-hand the impact they are creating in the country’s vulnerable coastal areas. Together with Plastic Bank leaders, SC Johnson visited Baseco in Tondo, Manila, where collection community members took them through their daily routines. The team also dropped by at some of our partner schools and joined lectures about driving a circular economy.

Indonesia

Plastic Bank Indonesia collaborated with PREVENT Waste Alliance to add two new features to the PlasticBank® app. These include Split Mode, which allows automatic and even distribution of collected plastic to the registered members of our faith, school, and community center partners; and Help function, which provides useful information to our app users.

Our Impact Partner, Amadeus, also spent time with our collection community members in Tangerang, Indonesia, and got inspired by the stories of how our members are stopping ocean plastic while supporting their families.

Brazil

Our Community Partnership Program welcomes its second year in Brazil with a collection milestone of 3.6 million bottles – the equivalent of 72,000 kilograms of plastic. This number represents 65% of the collection volume of the program, which also operates in Indonesia and the Philippines.

Egypt

Our Ocean Stewards in Egypt have prevented 300 million kilograms of plastic from flowing into the ocean. To celebrate the milestone, the Canadian Embassy to Egypt conducted a networking event for our team to connect with organizations and businesses that can help empower a regenerative society.
