We can keep regenerating single-use plastic...
Single-use plastic is everywhere. On the store shelves, in our homes, on the streets and in the oceans. And every day, our collectors are working hard to make our planet a cleaner place.
By collecting plastic from vulnerable coastal communities and exchanging it for bonuses at Plastic Bank collection branches, our collectors are receiving bonuses which help them to access basic family necessities. We’re going beyond sustainability by empowering a regenerative society that is reducing the need for new virgin plastics. Simply put, we’re stopping ocean plastic and improving lives - but we can’t do it alone.
We tend to think that one single person’s actions won’t make a difference, but if one person could inspire another person and another after that, then we’d see a butterfly effect; a movement that says no to single-use plastic, adheres to proper recycling and advocates material regeneration across the globe.
If that leaves you feeling inspired to make positive change, then next time you go to the store look for the products on the shelf that are made of recycled plastic or non-plastic materials.
Remember, every time you make a purchase, you’re voting for the products you buy.
Make your vote count.

Our leadership enlightens Leadership2050

Last month, David Katz, Plastic Bank’s CEO and Founder, spoke on the Leadership 2050 podcast. David offered insight into why Plastic Bank exists and what its core values are. In his conversation with Dr. Andrew White, David was asked the most frequent question of all: “What can we do?”
“Continuing to buy things that are single use or excessively packaged means that those products will continue to be made. With every purchase you make, you vote with your dollars in favour of that product – including how it is manufactured and how it gets thrown away. It is important to vote with purpose, because the retailer listens to the consumer’s demand, and the big manufacturers listen to the retailer,” was David’s response.
Using the magic of Alchemy™ Blockchain to regenerate a better world

Our Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder Shaun Frankson spoke at the TiE Silicon Valley Blockchain + AI Summit. Shaun explained how blockchain technology enables regeneration when the collected plastic waste is reborn as Social Plastic® - regenerating the environment by eliminating the need for single-use plastic, the societies by offering school tuition fees, monthly groceries and health insurance to collectors in vulnerable coastal communities, and the economies by helping lift people above the poverty line.
Building a purposeful brand for a better future

Our CMO Saleem Ahamed spoke with Sara Cappe from Maru/Matchbox at the #WeBetterBehave2021 virtual event, discussing how Plastic Bank is empowering the regenerative society by building recycling ecosystems in vulnerable coastal communities and reprocess the materials for reintroduction into the global supply chain as Social Plastic®. For each attendee, the hosts also contributed $1 to Plastic Bank, 1% for the Planet, Ocean Conservancy and Tree Nation.
"Everything we say and do is a declaration of what we believe in. Things as transactional as buying a shampoo or a razor - even the container that your meat comes in - are all choices you make (that make all the difference). Consumers are awakening to choices that drive meaning." - Saleem Ahamed
Partner Spotlight
Plastic Bank partners with METRO, uniting the wholesaler’s professional customers and selected suppliers.

As a leading international wholesale specialist, METRO has a significant role in the distribution of commercial food and non-food products to professional customers in gastronomy and independent retail. Plastic remains especially essential in the packaging of food products to ensure high quality and food safety standards as well as long shelf life. But there are many things that can be improved. METRO is working the 3R-strategy (reduce – reuse – recycle) ambitiously. In the partnership with Plastic Bank and under the umbrella of the METRO Plastic Initiative, METRO and like-minded suppliers with strong track records in reducing their individual plastic footprint, jointly tackle the fourth “R” – recovery. That is why in partnership with Plastic Bank the international, multi-year collaboration aims to prevent plastic pollution from entering the oceans at its source. More than 65 million plastic bottles are to be stopped in the first year of the partnership alone, equivalent to 1.3 million kilograms of plastic waste.
