In 2023 alone, our collective efforts have prevented over 38.8 million kilograms of plastic, equivalent to over 1.9 billion bottles, from polluting our ocean. Our dedicated collection members gathered an average of 3,692 bottles per minute – amounting to over 5.3 million bottles every day, which were exchanged for secure income and life-improving benefits at our collection branches across Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa.

The support from changemakers like you has not only sparked significant change in the lives of our collection members but also played a crucial role in helping us achieve a significant milestone: the collection of over 5 billion bottles since we began our journey!

Philippines

In December, the Plastic Bank Philippines team welcomed new partners to the movement: Bostik, Jardine, Asian Coatings, and Amore Pacific. Together, these companies aim to stop 146,800 kilograms of plastic from entering the ocean, collectively contributing to environmental sustainability and empowering collection communities.

Indonesia

Plastic Bank Indonesia won the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Award for Environmental Management in the Islamic World, a prestigious honor accompanied by a USD 20,000 grant. This award will support our effort to partner with more school and faith communities in stopping plastic pollution, creating eco-literacy, and ending poverty.

Throughout the last quarter of 2023, our Community Partnership conducted 26 pop-up events, engaging over 4,000 new members from various educational and religious backgrounds. Alongside this, we initiated extensive campaigns to educate on plastic waste management and incentivized community members to exchange plastic for cooking oil.

Furthermore, we're thrilled to announce a partnership with Bank Resona Perdania. This collaboration promises to strengthen our collection efforts, and contribute to the fight against poverty in Indonesia.

Brazil

Our partner Alcon has stopped over 69,000 kilograms of plastic from entering the ocean in 2023. This January, it revealed its plan to distribute 400 hygiene kits and 400 school kits to our collection members in Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo. Our ongoing collaboration with Alcon stands to support and uplift our collection communities and their families further, bringing meaningful improvements to their lives.

Egypt

To commence the year, our team in Egypt organized a comprehensive Health and Safety training session for our branch owners. We invited 25 branch owners to refresh their knowledge and ensure their preparedness for emergencies in the workplace, including fire incidents and injuries. To reinforce our commitment to safety, we distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to all participants after the session.
