What collaborating with Plastic Bank did for Fisher Retail
Enhanced brand reputation and customer engagement
Fisher Retail’s collaboration with Plastic Bank aligned with the Extended Producer Responsibility Act (EPRA) of 2022 positioned the company as a sustainability leader. Over the past year, the initiative drove measurable increases in brand mentions across media and social listening channels, with significant earned media value – reflecting how sustainability directly translated into positive visibility and trust.
Operational efficiency and waste reduction
By integrating sustainable practices into supply chain and store operations, Fisher Retail improved inventory control, optimized packaging, and reduced plastic waste-related costs. The partnership also contributed to the collection of 7,173 kilograms of plastic waste — equivalent to 358,650 bottles — surpassing their 2024 goal.
Beyond retail operations, sustainability extends through Fisher Retail’s mother company, IRMA Fishing – which provides seafood for the supermarket. IRMA Fishing manages net mending, the process of repairing or restoring damaged fishing nets so they can be reused safely and effectively. Nets are only considered for disposal when damage is too extensive to repair. Even then, waste is minimized — scrap nets are sold for recycling, where materials are melted down and repurposed into new nets. This closed-loop approach reduces material waste, extends asset life cycles, and reinforces Fisher Retail’s commitment to practical sustainability.
Community empowerment and consumer loyalty
Through Plastic Bank, Fisher Retail transformed every purchase into a contribution toward waste collection and community support. Customers and mallgoers participated in eco-reward programs, reusable bag initiatives, and local plastic recovery campaigns, deepening emotional connection and loyalty to the brand.

How the partnership works
Fisher Retail’s partnership with Plastic Bank funds the collection of discarded plastic from the environment, supporting local collection communities in the Philippines. Each purchase at Fisher Supermarket and Fisher Department Store contributes to this collection, turning everyday shopping into environmental restoration.
By the end of 2024, Fisher Retail met and exceeded its goal of collecting 7,000 kilograms of plastic, contributing directly to cleaner communities in Quezon City and Malabon. The partnership amplifies Fisher Retail’s social responsibility impact at the local level.
Why Fisher Retail’s initiatives succeed
Strategic compliance and communication: Aligning with the Philippines’ EPR Act positioned Fisher Retail as a sustainability leader among local retailers and showcased its commitment to regulatory and environmental responsibility.
Visible community engagement: The Eco-rewards plastic recovery program, a joint effort between Fisher Mall and the Quezon City LGU, provided mallgoers with easy-to-access drop-off points, making sustainability a convenient experience for everyone.
Customer-focused storytelling: The initiative’s awareness was amplified through both in-store and digital campaigns, successfully transforming sustainability from a corporate effort into a mission shared by both the brand and its customers.

“Our partnership with Plastic Bank helped us turn sustainability into shared progress. We’ve not only reduced our plastic footprint but also strengthened our relationship with our customers and communities.”
Robert Raymond Del Rosario
President of Fisher Retail Inc.
