Ocean-bound plastic

Ocean-bound plastic has not yet found its way into the ocean. This represents plastic that is found on the ground within 50 kilometers of a waterway or coastal area, and is otherwise unlikely to be collected.

Bottles Stopped

The amount of ocean-bound plastic collected and recycled in our recycling communities converted into bottles. Conversion rate is 50 bottles per kg (the average weight of a 500mL bottle is ~20g)

Community Members

Recycling Communities

Community of plastic collectors living within 50 kilometres of ocean-bound waterways involved in plastic collection and its exchange at Plastic Bank collection points.

Season of Creation Faith Webinar

Season of Creation is a significant initiative by the Christian community to care for our planet. It runs every year from September 01 with the Day of Prayer for Creation to October 04, the day of St. Francis of Assis

WATCH OUR WEBINAR RECORDING

Thousands of Christians worldwide gather together to follow the call to action to save our planet. This year, Plastic Bank is joining to launch our Social Plastic Interfaith Revolution. Our urgent call to action is for healing the ocean and empowering poor communities. This overlaps strongly with the teachings of all religions.

Together, we can make a difference.

We kick-off with a powerful webinar on September 05 with top-notch speakers to guide us on our journey to put our faith into action and become the change the world needs today. We will learn what is happening in our oceans. We will get inspired by the powerful message of our faith and we can engage in impactful action to make a difference.

Our speakers are

  • The Rev. Dr. Joshtrom Isaac Kureethadam, Chair of Philosophy of Science and Director of the Institute of Social and Political Sciences at the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome
  • Dr. Robert Sluka, Lead Scientist, Marine and Coastal Conservation Programme, A Rocha International
  • Dr. Peter Nitschke, Interfaith Specialist of the Plastic Bank.
In addition, we are launching our Interfaith online campaign where people of faith can enroll in the Social Plastic Interfaith Revolution. Groups can join our online training and get access to resources to engage faith groups worldwide to make a difference.

And we can do something right away to stop ocean plastic by neutralizing our plastic footprint through our “Season of Creation Plastic Neutrality Campaign”.
