Plastic Bank partners with METRO to unite customers and suppliers.

As a leading international wholesale specialist, METRO has a significant role in the distribution of commercial food and non-food products. Plastic continues to be used in the packaging of goods to ensure high quality standards and long shelf life for many products that are sold at METRO stores. The wholesaler is committed to offsetting its plastic footprint with a goal of eliminating the use of single-use plastics by 2025.

Protecting resources and the planet

Beginning on World Oceans Day 2021, METRO is bringing the issue of plastic waste to the forefront of its customers’ minds. During recurring two-week campaigns, the focus in-store and on digital channels will be on country-specific products whose packaging reduces impact on the world’s oceans – including products made with sustainable packaging, recycled plastic and Social Plastic®.

As part of METRO’s mission to eliminate the use of single-use plastics by 2025, METRO has partnered with Plastic Bank to offset the plastic that is used in the packaging of products sold in their stores. For every sustainable product purchased in a METRO or makro store during the plastic waste campaign, METRO and its participating suppliers will support our fight against ocean plastic while improving the lives of collector communities. 

Together with METRO, we are empowering and educating customers on the positive effect of recycling and creating environmental, social and economic impact.
